The Azusa Plane was the experimental drone rock alias of guitarist Jason DiEmilio; begun in 1995, the project's debut 7", Vol.
1:Fall/Meander, bore the cryptic declaration "This is volume one...of the ten-volume vinyl collection documenting the existence of the Azusa Plane. Following the tenth volume, the Azusa Plane will disintegrate and cease to exist." After the second volume, a split single with Fuxa, the Azusa Plane's third official recording, Resonating Subtleties, appeared on the Shrimper label. A flurry of extracurricular releases -- compilation tracks, tapes, singles, and splits with the likes of Loren MazzaCane Connors, Grimble Grumble, and Juicy Eureka -- followed, none of them part of the project's official discography; however, subsequent releases in tandem with Roy Montgomery and Windy & Carl brought the Plane that much closer to its planned demise, as did the 1997 full-length debut Tycho Magnetic Anomaly and the Full Consciousness of Hidden Harmony. ~ Jason Ankeny
