This just in! Read a review of 'SideWalk Mary' from The Noise:
AXEMUNKEE
Tigrette Records
SideWalk Mary
10-song CD
"The last time I got my head completely smacked like this was by a record from Abunai! many years ago. It’s that rare kinda mind-melt that can be many things to many people. It’s psychedelic, dark, jaunty, spiritual, playful, sinister, even world-beatish, and sometimes all in the same friggin’ song. Usually, stuff that’s this all-over-the-place is doomed to fail, but there isn’t a single misstep or contrived-sounding second here. One minute you’re on the beach, the next you’re on Jupiter, and the next you’re getting reamed up the woo-hoo by James Bond in the jungle or something. Oh, and they do it all without vocals, save for an odd sample here and there. While every note played by everyone here is crucial to the staggering success of this thing, it’d be impossible (and stupid) not to single out guitarist and songwriter Catherine Capozzi, who might be my new favorite musician in about the last million years. I’d call it a minor miracle, but there’s nothing minor about it. World-class head-fuckery from start to finish. If this doesn’t leave you scratchin’ your noggin in wonder, you must not have any arms. (Joe Coughlin)"
A quote from JustBill.net:
"Axemunkee is Catherine Capozzi's long awaited project that has come into fruition. Her line up Geoff Chase from ' The Bentmen', Tamora Gooding from 'Ziaf' and 'All the Queens Men' on electronic drums- The Bass Man sounds of Chris Farrell from 'All the Queens Men' and 'The Charms' and Joel Simches from Count Zero an..… Catherine creates a psychedelic, groove and oriented sound with a touch of Zeppelin. It's nice to fall deep into the world of music she creates in front of you. If you enjoy watching veteran rockers at work, check out Axemunkee."

The concept behind Axemunkee is to present songs - not just wild jams (although there might be some of those elements live). Stories told through sounds and music with the guitar as the voice- floating over a massive amount of rhythm and beats ...designed to..trap your short attention span and take you on a twisted --sensational trip.....somewhere...else.
Read the blog for the inspiration behind the tunes. Most of it comes from traveling around Europe and wherever walking through cities with much more history than we have in our young punk country. :)
SideWalk Mary was UNLEASHED on May 27th. A big round of applause for Geoff Chase who recorded, mixed and co-produced (with me). Joel and Geoff mastered the disc. It's a DIY effort but sure doesn't sound like that! SideWalk Mary is coming to CD Baby or email me at axemunkee@gmail.com to find out how to purchase your own copy.
MY PAST: All the Queen's Men was a hybrid of rock and electronica/psychedelia. Visit the web site http://www.atqm.com to read more about that story.
STILL PRESENT: Ziaf--performing the music of famed french chanteuse, Edith Piaf. Ziaf took off in a way that no one anticipated (NPR & BBC interviews, film documentary, several european tours, etc.). This side project turned into an all encompassing endeavor which didn't leave much room for anything else. Oh, and took me to places I've never been. Visit Ziaf's web site http://www.ziaf.com..you'll see why.
THE FUTURE: Axemunkee started unofficially with a couple of shows 3 years ago. Concept was long in the making and it's where I'm headed.
I have recently been informed that I'm supposed to be out of town on August 1st, a night I had been looking forward to with a big fat enthusiasm. WHYYYYYYYY....
korg pandora clean sound, into an effector 13 (serial number 1!!!) "Truly Beautiful Disaster" the aux send that is part of the pedal fed back on itself into a pete cornish NG Fuzz, into an API 3124 mic pre. No amp! its an odd tone, the guitar was only drop D but i think the disaster was adding an octave lower harmonic..... the solo i was running through a guitar synth after i played it....... fun track ... i'm updating the mix later today!
Hello, you're now on my top friends, many thanks. I was listening BlasFamous from your album.....AMAZING !!! Hope I will find the opportunity to see you again, may be in Switzerland... Cheers Mounir

Hey girl! What a great cd release party that was. Congratulations! Axemunkee rocks! Blow a kiss to Paris for me. Send my love to Christine. She is missed.
speaking of mine, it's all compositions, from different projects, excepts "my little blue suede shoes" from Bird and "Drifftin' On A Reed" which is a standard i don't know who wrote it, but has been played by duke ellington i think.
