Ben: Rhythm Guitar and Vox
Carl: Lead Guitar
Jay: Percussion
Jamie: Guitar / Mandolin
Influences
Ben Harper, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Shaista Bosch, Sublime, J.J., Regina Spektor, Dave Yaden and The Weight, All of our wonderful musician friends who inspire us to play more and more. Death Cab, DMB, Black Crows, Chris Whitley, any and all of the Wainwrights, Legendary Slacks, Cat Power, Norah Jones, Edie Brickell, Tom Waits, Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Head Down, The Shins, Iron and Wine, Tristan Prettyman, Imogen Heap and all the wonderful things she does, ACME products, Mike Patton and all of his nine hundred and ninety nine quintillion projects, Bugs Bunny, Raymond Chandler, T.S. Garp, Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, and Buster Keton. And if you think about it, all these influences were influenced by someone or something else, who in turn, were influenced by another. So if I had to give a very vague answer...it would be...everything. So there.
Where to begin, where to begin......
Formed at the dawning of the new century, Avitas started out as Ben and Carl. Ben on vocals and guitar, and Carl on lead / rhythm guitar. Time passed, and local shows began to become plentiful. Enter Jay on percussion to fill the void. Again time passes. More shows, more fun, more writing, more open mics, and the need for.........Enter Dan with the added guitar flibbity floo and a little mandolin and backup vocals. Avitas was complete. And with that came more shows, more fun, more songwriting.......
Time has passed, and with that we saw the departure of Dan, but Carl, Jay and Ben continue on with the helping hand of Jamie to fill in the occasional blank. And the music continues.....
Avitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas! hey - long time no hear. how are you...please listen to "you lift me high" produced by Tim C Music. i just really love it....kisses from be
Hello there Illinois friend! Just thought I'd let you know I'm going to see one of my all time favorite bands the Samples tonight, Friday, October 12, at Martyr's in Chicago. I'll just be hanging out for the most part, but I might get to sit in playing my Cellocaster. Also, I played my Cellocaster on the title track that Dan Bern wrote for a documentary by Jonathan Demme called "Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains," and it will be in theatres starting on October 26. You can check out the trailer here: www.apple.com/trailers/sony/jimmycartermanfromplains Hope to see you tonight! peace, Paul Kuhn Cellocaster, Violin, Vocals
