Speed skating is not required*, but fun and a spirit of camaraderie are mandatory. In addition to the top world speed skaters, we regularly have some folks come in hours after the clock is turned off, and they get a standing ovation at the awards ceremony: for perseverance. That's the spirit of Athens-to-Atlanta.
* Inline skates are not required either: A2A was originally skated exclusively on quad skates, and quad skaters are still welcome at Athens-to-Atlanta.
Old friends gather on Friday night to survey the skylines of mid- and downtown Atlanta, celebrate on Saturday with a fun-skate in downtown Athens, and tighten their laces at dawn on Sunday morning for the 7:30 departure for the skate to Piedmont Park in Atlanta - 87 miles away. Whether you plan to skate the new 10K (wholly within Piedmont Park), the 38 Mile Marathon-Plus, the 52.4 Mile Double Marathon, or the 87 Mile Ultra Marathon - you'll find extraordinary challenges, competition and friendships in every mile.
