Impress your momma with our Mother's Day must-watch list.

We’re yet to figure out what's worse: Julia Robert’s bob in Mother’s Day or the movie itself. But one thing is certain—it’s absolutely okay to skip this Mother’s Day cash-in movie and opt for a better flick to watch with your momma this holiday season. From cheerful musicals about frivolous moms to stories of knife-wielding parents, we’ve got you covered with 8 must-see options.

Mamma Mia (2008)

First of all, every mom loves Abba (you do, too, but we won’t tell on you). Try to get your mom to spill a secret or two from her youth while watching this story about a truly multi-tasking woman who can’t figure out which one of her three lovers is the father of her daughter. Family secrets are so much more fun to reveal to the ever-youthful sounds of “Dancing Queen” (because let's be real, we're all Abba fans deep down).

Freaky Friday (2003)

How many times did you tell your mother, “You don’t know what it’s like to be in my shoes”? Well, think again: Do you really want her to know? What if one Friday (most likely the 13th) you wake in your mother’s body and have to deal with all her adult drama, while your mom will have to find a solution to all of your high school problems? The possibility will either make both of you more understanding or prevent both of you from ever giving each other any life advice (both can be considered a success depending on where you stand). Also don’t forget to remind your mom that if she ever thinks you’re doing something wrong with your life, at least you're not Lindsay Lohan!

Carnage (2011)

Ever thought about inviting your BFF’s parents for a dinner to see if both of your families could get along? This Roman Polanski-directed take on the award-winning French play will make you think twice. Carnage shows how little it may take for two sets of parents to get wild when trying to figure whose kid is worse (Newsflash: all kids are bad), who’s got better taste in art and who’s going to clean up the mess when somebody gets sick. Use this movie to remind your mom that we all got a bit of a misbehaving child inside. Even if that child is obsessed with art books.

Room (2015)

This is surely no light-hearted entertainment. It's a story about sacrifices, finding strength and not losing faith despite everything you’ve been through. And watching it with your mother will surely be a rewarding experience.

Mother’s Day (2010)

It’s always a treat when your mom can appreciate a good thriller, and 2010's psycho-horror about a family of criminals crashing a party will be quite a ride for you two. It’s nerve-wrecking, plain brutal and occasionally gory. But more importantly, it has one of the most iconic mama bears in the stone-cold face of Rebecca De Mornay, who’ll do anything to make sure her deranged family survives the night. #MotherGoals all the way.

White Bird In A Blizzard (2014)

One more story about motherly secrets, less melodic than Mamma Mia, but way more poetic. Shailene Woodley stars as a Kat, whose beautiful mother (played by the ever-enigmatic Eva Green) has mysteriously disappeared, leaving a huge gap in Kat’s soul. It’s neither a coming-of-age story nor a mystery flick, but a mix of all that and so much more, crafted by Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin). Just like any relationship between a child and a mother, the movie is complicated but magical.

Heartbreakers (2001)

Did you ever think that having Sigourney Weaver as your mother would be anything but fun? This movie about a daughter-and-mother duo of professional con artists plays like an ultimate guide of spending quality time with your mom. Want a fancy lunch but don’t want to pay? Sneak a piece of glass into your food and demand a free meal. Wanna stay at a luxury hotel for free? Pretend you’ve slipped on a wet floor and get a free presidential suite. Finally, want a cooler stepdad? There’s always a willing retired billionaire looking for some last-minute romance.

Serial Mom (1994)

Just stop for a minute and think: what if your mother was a serial killer? How much would that information change your everyday routine? Would it make you afraid to silence her call next time she wants to know where you are and when are you getting home? This John Waters-directed black comedy surely made a lot of teenagers nervous back in the '90s and also gave the mothers of the world all kinds of ideas. We warned you, okay?
