Too bad it's a carbon copy of Pharrell's "Happy" video.

Justin Timberlake is back—but is he better than ever?

Today he released his first new single in three years, titled "Can't Stop the Feeling!" Pop svengalis Max Martin and Shellback co-wrote and produced the track, which seem promising, sure. But it sounds like a bootleg version of Pharrell's biggest hits from the past several years. The neo-funk arrangements of "Can't Stop the Feeling!" remind of how Pharrell teamed with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers from "Get Lucky." And its sheer optimism—"I got sunshine in my pocket, I got that good soul in my feet"—reminds of "Happy." Never mind the video, which, like with "Happy," has celebrities dancing to it in the real world.

Justin has worked with Pharrell since his days in *NSYNC, when the Neptunes produced 2001's "Girlfriend." Compared to their past work, though, "Can't Stop the Feeling!" sounds generic.

While Pharrell recorded "Happy" for Despicable Me 2, Justin did his new song for Trolls—another animated film. In fact, he is executive producing the soundtrack, out September 23. Songs also include a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors," by himself and Anna Kendrick.
