The electronic producer and singer worked with Rick Rubin, Bon Iver and Frank Ocean.
Last night (May 5), James Blake stopped by BBC Radio 1 to announce his new album The Colour in Anything. The kicker: The electronica producer released it just a few hours later, in time for New Music Friday.
The title refers to James' newfound optimism, after having won a Mercury Prize for his past melancholia. "I listened to my old music and I really didn't sound like a happy person," he said to Pitchfork. "I was fairly unhappy that whole time, and people close to me may not have noticed. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy anything, but those first four years of my career—I'm not sure I remember as much of it that I would like to, in vivid technicolor. Some of it is grayed out."
The Colour in Anything features production by Rick Rubin, songwriting by Frank Ocean and guest vocals by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. It also arrives after James' highest-profile collaboration yet. He worked on Beyonce's Lemonade, having written "Pray You Catch Me" and sang in "Forward." Stream the album below:
