Director Danny Boyle and the original cast return for the haunting sequel.
"Here's watching history repeat itself," says a voiceover in the new Trainspotting 2 trailer. It's just two minutes long, but the first glimpse of T2 makes it clear that we'll be seeing all of the extravagant sex, drug use, addiction and scheming that helped make the 1996 film so iconic.
Also included in the trailer for the sequel — set 20 years later — is an updated version of the "Choose life" monologue, which now mentions Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Irvine Welsh's book Porno, the sequel to his Trainspotting novel, is the inspiration for T2. The film's original screenwriter John Hodge again adapted the story for the silver screen.
Trainspotting 2 hits theaters on January 27, 2017.
