"As a professional artist, Mr. Lamar has gone from a local Compton young boy to become a multi-platinum, Billboard chart-topping, two-time Grammy Award-winning musician."

Senator Isadore Hall III, representing the 35th District of California, took the time to honor Kendrick Lamar's contributions to music, pop culture and his hometown of Compton, Calif. on the state's Senate Floor.

The Senator presented Lamar with the Generational Icon Award, calling the 27-year-old rapper's story a "unique California one" that should encourage others to give back to the community. Lamar also took his turn at the podium, thanking the California Senate for the honor.
