ROCK CITY NEWS - March 18, 1999
When I first saw April Waters I figured "just another girl band, same old, same old". Well I'm happy to tell you that I was wrong!
With a rich fullness to her voice April took control of the stage. Her voice has a depth and a range that I think is missing from most of the "same old, same old" chick bands. There is a lot more to April than that. In talking to her I found her eager and ready to face the challenges of the music scene. She already knows that not everyone plays by the same set of rules.
She is backed up by some very good musicians, Mike on guitar, Francis on drums, Martin on bass, Mark on keyboards and Allyson her back up singer. They make up a well rounded group. They have been together for about a year. Eight months of that were spent in rehearsal. Their hard work shows and they perform well together. April grew up being a big fan of Pat Benatar and now Garbage. Their influence is there and yet April Waters is her own person and artist doing her own music.

APRIL'S BIO:
April was born and raised in Long Beach City, California. At the tender age of 15, after some rural living and a seriously screwed up domestic situation, with ten bucks in one hand and a garbage bag filled with her clothes in the other, she hopped on a Greyhound bus to the San Fernando Valley to flee, and also run to her, "hero", Pat Benatar. (Hence, the song Runaway)
April joined her first rock band, "Refugee" with then, drummer/boyfriend, Frank Bayon and recorded her first professional singing demo at 16. Their first gig was in Hollywood at a well known club called, Club 86, (her other early influences were Klaus Meine of the Scorpions, Joan Jett, Berlin, Chrissie Hynde, Annie Lennox, & Kate Bush), she sang for two years in Germany at twenty, drank and loved the Hefeweizen beer!, then returned to Californiahomesick.
April was soon chosen by prominent record producer Gingio Muehlbauer to cut a CD, and the result is 1997s powerful 6-song CD Gonna Get Close.
A mature performer with passion and real gutsnot to mention technical controlApril considers the new music very truthful, because she only writes about her own truths. Her attitude is cocky. The music is honest. Hearing her howl at you at the end of the set during an encore is something you will not forget, and something few female rock vocalists can equal.
April produced "Chicks unplugged" in 2001 at The Palms in Hollywood, a benefit in Los Angeles for a Tori Amos organization, "RAINN" ( Rape Abuse Incest National Network ), she worked with 12 very talented female artists and raised over $2,000. April plans to produce more benefits in the future.
In 2002 April met Mike Griffen ( the son of the owner of the VERY popular "West LA Music" on Santa Monica Blvd and Ventura Blvd.), She is credited on 2 tracks of Mike's recent RAP record and also sang as a "demo artist" on a pop track Mike wrote for a well known publishing company in LA.
Recently, April met Roger Fisher and Mike Derosier, original members of the band, HEART in Seattle, Washington, where they hooked up and recorded her single, "FIFTEEN", which was written for her "hero", Pat Benatar, who was kind enough to listen to April when she was a troubled teen-when no one else would!
April has also sang for several children charities in LA, She has started a "GIRL" T-shirt company and plans to help troubled teens by donating 10% of all proceeds to her favorite children's organizations. April plans to expand "girl" merchandise with leather embossed "Girl" wristbands, sweatbands, etc.
"Girl" was designed to encourage young girls to build strength, courage, self respect, and love in themselves. As a troubled teenage runaway herself, April Waters learned how tough life could be on the streets, helpless, at a very tender age of 15.
With the "Girl" movement, April hopes to raise awareness of trouble teens, to let them know there are safe places to land and people who DO care!
"Girl" Is Inspired by a song... dedicated to young girls everywhere, trying to find their way...
