Composer and guitarist, born in Dominican Republic (“D.R.”) on March 7th 1980,
in 2007 he becomes a Spanish citizen.
From an early age Ocaña discovered his love for music. At the age of five he
started taking piano and violin lessons, and at 12 he began playing what is
today his main instrument, the guitar. He studied at the National Conservatory
of Music of the D.R. with the recognized guitarist Ruben Gonzalez. In 1998 he
received a talent scholarship to study guitar and composition at Manhattanville
College NY. He studied guitar with Benjamin Verdery and composition with
Ingram Marshall and Mary Ann Joyce. In NY he worked with important musical
figures such as Elliot Magaziner (for many years he conducted the Frank Sinatra
Orchestra). Ocaña was awarded the “Sr. Josephine Morgan Award” by the
Music Department of Manhattanville College for his professional and academic
achievements. In 2002, after finishing his studies in NY, he moved to Madrid
where he studied composition with Jesus Torres and guitar with Jose Luis Merlín.
In 1999 and 2001 he opened concerts for Gonzalo Rubalcaba at the National
Theater of D.R. In 2001 he recorded his first album titled “A Paso de Cebra”
(Zebra’s Pace) along with the pianist Sebastian Lerner. In 2003 he opened a
concert for Egberto Gismonti at the National Theater of D.R. For this event Ocaña
integrated the percussion in his music, and had the pleasure to perform with
Guarionex Aquino. In 2004 he received two significant awards for his guitar
works, the “Francisco Tárrega Award” in Spain and the “Casa de Teatro Award”
in D.R.
Ocaña performs his music, on a regular basis, at important concert halls in Spain:
Casa de América, El Círculo de Bellas Artes, La Casa de La Moneda, La Fídula,
Rincón del Arte Nuevo and Clamores.
In the summer of 2006 he published his second album titled “Anthony Ocaña”
based on compositions he wrote between 2003 and 2006. Several Dominican
artists where invited to perform in this album: Guarionex Aquino, Esar Simó,
Sebastián Lerner, Isidro Bobadilla and Maridalia Hernandez. In February 2007 he
performed at the prestigious Palacio Foz in Lisbon, Portugal; this concert was
retransmitted throughout Portugal..s National Radio. In March 2007 Ocaña
presented an important tour in D. R. In November 2007 he participated at the
Festival de Jazz de Madrid.
In the year of 2008 Ocaña is chosen to participate at the Circuitos de Música
Injuve (National Institute for the Youth in Spain). Throughout the years of 2008-
2009 he will be touring in Spain and other countries in order to introduce his
most recent album titled “Solo”.

Compositor y guitarrista, nace en República Dominicana (”R.D.”) el 7 de marzo de 1980, se nacionaliza español en el año 2007.
Desde la cuna empieza a mostrar su interés por la música. A los 5 años inicia sus estudios de piano y violín y a los 12 descubre lo que hoy es su instrumento principal, la guitarra. Estudia en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música de la República Dominicana con el reconocido profesor y guitarrista cubano Rubén González. En 1998 recibe una beca de la Universidad Manhattanville College en New York para estudiar composición y guitarra. Estudia guitarra con el maestro Benjamin Verdery y composición con Ingram Marshall y Mary Ann Joyce. En NY trabaja con importantísimas personalidades como Elliot Magaziner (destacado músico y director de la orquesta de Frank Sinatra). El departamento de música de su Universidad le otorga el "Sr. Josephine Morgan Award" por destacarse académica y profesionalmente. En el año 2002, luego de finalizar sus estudios en NY se radica en Madrid, lugar donde reside actualmente y donde estudió composición con Jesús Torres y guitarra con José Luis Merlín.
En el año 1999 y 2001 es telonero del pianista Gonzalo Rubalcaba en el Teatro Nacional de R.D. En el año 2001 graba su primer trabajo discográfico titulado "A Paso de Cebra" junto al pianista dominico-argentino Sebastián Lerner. En el año 2003 abre el concierto del músico y compositor brasileño Egberto Gismonti en el Teatro Nacional de R.D.. Para este concierto Anthony integra la percusión en su música, haciéndose acompañar del reconocido músico y maestro percusionista dominicano Guarionex Aquino.
En el 2004 recibe dos premios muy prestigiosos por su obra compuesta para la guitarra, el premio "Francisco Tárrega" en España y el premio "Casa de Teatro" en R.D.
Ocaña lleva constantemente su música a importantes salas de España entre las que podemos citar en Madrid: Casa de América, El Círculo de Bellas Artes, La Casa de la Moneda, la Fídula, Rincón del Arte Nuevo y Clamores. También presenta su música en Barcelona, Extremadura, Granada, Canarias y otras comunidades del país.
En el verano del 2006 publica su disco titulado "Anthony Ocaña" el cual compila composiciones escritas por Anthony entre los años 2003-2006. En este disco aparecen como invitados los músicos dominicanos: Guarionex Aquino, Esar Simó, Sebastián Lerner, Isidro Bobadilla y la voz de Maridalia Hernández en el tema "Sálvame".
En el mes de febrero del 2007 se presenta en el prestigioso Palacio Foz en Lisboa, Portugal, dicho concierto fue grabado y transmitido a través de la Radio Nacional de Portugal. En marzo del mismo año presenta una importante gira en su natal República Dominicana. En noviembre del mismo año participa en el “Festival de Jazz de Madrid”.
En el año 2008 Ocaña es seleccionado para participar en los Circuitos de Música Injuve (Instituto Nacional de la Juventud de España). Para los años 2008-2009 Ocaña estará presentando una extensa gira en España donde dará a conocer su última producción discográfica “Solo”.
