A MAZE. – Games and Art, Exhibition and Conference.
Computer games is a controversial subject. The debate on violence,
addiction and isolation defines the image. At the same time it is the
dominant form of entertainment of a whole generation and it employs
the fastest emerging media industry.
A MAZE. is an exhibition and a conference on the subject of
the convergence of computer games and art. It creates potential
behind the ambivalent medium. Computer games is the basis of
reflection, construction and discussion of new interactive content.
A MAZE. offers a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and
encourages the creative and active shaping of the medium beyond
established games concepts.
A MAZE. will take place from the 8th to the 16th May 2009 in Berlin.
Theorists and artists will meet within the conference to discuss the
exhibited works and visions. The exhibition will remain open for
further seven days.
As a kick off event, there will be a party on May 8th 2008 in the
103club (Berlin). The event will take place within the international
conference "The Philosophy of Computer Games" in Potsdam and
the "Gamesweek Berlin" and should call attention to potential visitors
of the festival in May 2009.
The festival will be organised by A MAZE. GbR. We have co-operations
with the following: Digital Games Research Network (DIGAREC); the
Department for Film, Video and New Media of School of the Art Institute
of Chicago; as well as the courses of Game Design & Advanced Media
at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and European Media
Sciences at the University of Potsdam.
