I listen to a lot of Christian radio and love many of the artists out there right now. Sarah Kelly, Jeremy and Adie Camp, Shawn McDonald, Phil Wickham, David Crowder Band, Rush of Fools--these are the folks I am listening to when I am having my own personal worship moments along with some of the Hillsong United leaders.
Other influences... there are a ton. Too many to really talk about, some I'd rather not admit to...
I am the worship leader at Birchwood Church and have been enjoying that role in varying capacities for going on three years now. I never imagined this as a possibility....I, like many before me, went to college not knowing what my life should be about and ended up becoming overly-educated in the completely wrong field! About 5 years ago, I came to the point where I had to figure out what God wanted from me. His answer was not really understandable to me at the time, but what I did know is that I had to make my life be about Him.
I began writing songs and learning guitar that year. It was never my ambition to write, these lyrics just came to me during my Bible study times. The process was about me learning from and filtering through some experiences, and becoming closer to God as I saw more clearly how He was using those experiences to change me.
So here I am with some recordings... I was blessed to be connected with my now worship band leader, who is an excellent guitarist/singer/songwriter/arranger/producer who made these songs come alive. His name is Matt Shoaf---turns out we went to high school together but didn't know each other! He is phenomenal at what he does and I have been amazed by his creativity and heart.
God set things in motion in a powerful way, and I am completely submitted to doing what He wants me to do. I am thrilled and blessed to be leading worship, and plan to bloom where I am planted for as long as I have this special opportunity. I pray that if nothing else, these lyrics can be an encouragement to someone somewhere......Seek ye first His kingdom!!
