Taking the Nation's Capital by storm and turning heads at clubs along the eastern seaboard, DJ and producer Alex Cohen has earned himself a spot on the books at many of the country's largest nightclubs. A welcomed addition to the music scene, Cohen has unleashed the energy of his music onto dance floors the world around for over 12 years.
Seemingly a natural since his early teens, Alex began spinning for friends at private parties, and was soon filling in for a DJ at a local club. His signature tribal style mixed with energetic vocals has since become an unmistakable sound that has been heard in venues from Washington and Philadelphia to Europe.
Eight years ago, Alex moved to the most powerful city in the world in search of an audience to call his own. While playing events at various nightclubs, he started the transition into production. He has produced tracks for and created smash-hit re-mixes of artists such as Kathy Brown, Victor Calderone, Ceevox, and Jeanie Tracy. "Alex is a cutie and a fierce producer.....he's truly got the beats. It's been fun working with him!" --Jeanie Tracy. His efforts caught the attention of famed DJs & producers worldwide. Likewise, circuit mainstay Manny Lehman took notice of Alex's talent and included Alex's production, “Rhythm'n'Music”, on his Freedom Party compilation (Tommy Boy Records), and asked Alex to remix his single "Action Anthem". Alex Cohen has received credit and acclaim from Star 69 Records label owner Peter Rauhofer. Other recent projects have included the chart-topping re-mix of Alter featuring Jeanie Tracy’s “Party People” (MamaHouse Records), as well as the high energy re-mix of Niki Haris’ “This Time Baby” that legendary DJ/re-mixer/producer Eddie X selected for Alex.
At this point, it's no surprise when anybody takes great notice of this young artist's ability as a producer as well as live DJ. Some of Alex's favorite productions have been big room crowd pleasers such as "Love is Not a Game" featuring Kathy Brown and "Deep Inside" by Harddrive.
At the dawn of 2004, Alex started his residencies at Philadelphia's club PURE and Washington's APEX and later spun at DC's Cherry 9 Host Party in the city's largest nightclub, Dream. It is this event at which he bedazzled Washington's GLBT community with his overwhelming ability to move a room. Not surprisingly, whirlwind Alex Cohen was asked to spin Boston's celebrated Rise nightclub; an event well received by New England! In 2005, Alex headlined at Washington's illustrious mega-club, Velvet Nation and now captivates his dance floor regularly along the circuit and at special events across the country, including his residency at DC’s most popular and largest gay dance venue Apex (where he also headlined the 2005 popular and well-attended New Year’s party).
Now riding a wave of unstoppable energy, Alex has various production and performance projects in the works-keeping his fans happy with a plethora of gigs to look forward to. Cohen has quickly transcended the label of best-kept secret and has become one of the most talked about talents in the club scene.
