Yannis grew up in Cairo, Egypt and started playing music at age 16 via guitar where he joined a band of peers interested in the improvisational aspects of music playing regular gigs in Cairo's El Patio, the only live bar/venue catering less institutionalized music. Through traveling to the Sinai peninsula and after the inevitable exposure to the local culture, he started picking up traditional instruments and percussion. Eventually though it was his lifelong fascination with computers where he found the means to tie it all up and gave him the freedom to experiment with different sounds and blend his influences without worrying about external factors and production limitations. During the late 90's he worked as freelance sound designer for Leo brunett Cairo and co-released the the concept album shabaka with Omar Kamel, a landmark album, that blended traditional sounds, electronic landscapes and media sound bytes. Shortly afterwards he produced Mika Sabet's Album Ady fel Maadi. He then moved permanently to Greece where he released a single on the Octoberon music label selected by Blend as part of a collection of young up and coming Greek musicians entitled "Backroom sessions". He also was selected to remix swedish electropop duo's "Day Behavior" and was released on the bonus CD included with the album "Have you ever touched a dream".
