How To Describe AL “Coffee” McDaniel’s Music
"New-School Soul Music" is how to best describe AL "Coffee" McDaniel. His various styles will remind you of Barry White, Marvin Gaye, and Frank Sinatra all wrapped-up into one voice. He effectively mixes R & B, Blues, NEO-Soul, and Jazz melodies with cool modern urban beats. His rich baritone voice is very smooth and soothing to the ear. The emotions, passions, and energy that he expresses with his voice, and his soulful guitar playing, makes him unique as a crooner, and as a seasoned musician. His Jazzy, Bluesy, and Original guitar playing style makes it very difficult to limit his music to just one category, or genre.
AL “Coffee” McDaniel effectively takes the concepts and grooves from the funk-dance music of the 80’s and blending it with the urban and neo-soul sounds of today.

Al "Coffee" McDaniel Releases First Modern Day Urban Blues Opera, "The Blues In My Shoes"
Tampa--July 23, 2007. Al "Coffee" McDaniel may be a new voice to the Blues, but he is not new to the world of music. He has been performing professionally since he was five years old. It was then that he fronted a gospel band. Granted this band was comprised of siblings, but he knew even then what course his life would take, and the direction he would pursue.
July 29th CPA Records, McDaniel's private label, will release a landmark recording for the Blues. It may very well be the first modern day urban Blues opera. This fourteen track CD, possibly autobiographical, in music and song, tells the story of a man who finds himself married to a woman who is controlling, abusive and unfaithful. He asserts his autonomy from this relationship, meets and falls for another woman who ultimately helps his career, as she helps him attain fame and notoriety.
Al Coffee has successfully accompanied himself on this awesome CD with two of the most recognizable names in the music industry, legendary producer/songwriter/drummer, Narada Michael Walden, and blues great, guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter, Lucky Peterson. With this level of incredible future hall of fame artists joining AL "Coffee" McDaniel on this project, "Blues In My Shoes," it has genuine Grammy awards potential.
This phenomenal CD, which will be nationally distributed, includes songs ranging from traditional Blues, to Chicago and Texas blues, mixed in with a nice touch of R&B. While he paints each track with a different tint and hue from the Blues pallet, he defines each track with lyrics that paint a picture as though he were a fine artist. Each track, solid enough to stand on its own, comprises another act and scene that unfolds as it is listened to and considered as a whole. McDaniel's portrayal of the night club entertainer bedeviled by the woman to whom he is married, a woman who would possess him and destroy him, is particularly poignant.
This opus, storyline, lyrics and musical arrangements was conceived and composed by Al "Coffee" McDaniels.

Local Spotlight ‘Coffee' McDaniel Pours Smooth Blend Of Blues, R&B
By CURTIS ROSS The Tampa Tribune Published: October 12, 2007
Tampa blues artist Al “Coffee” McDaniel made his latest album, “Blues in My Shoes,” with help from some big-name friends.
Renowned guitarist-keyboardist Lucky Peterson came in to do one session and stayed on to play on and/or produce six more tracks.
“I guess he liked what he heard,” says a pleased-sounding McDaniel.
An even bigger coup came with Narada Michael Walden, the musician-producer behind hits for Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and more.
An acquaintance of McDaniel's is Walden's cousin, and the producer heard some early cuts of songs from the then in-progress album.
“I let him hear a couple of cuts and he was impressed,” McDaniel says. “I got a call from him a couple months after that saying, ‘What can I do?' I said, ‘You can help me get some exposure,'” McDaniel recalls.
Walden produced and played drums on a remake of the B.B. King classic “The Thrill Is Gone.”
Walden's name may draw some attention to “Blues in My Shoes,” but the star of the album is McDaniel's voice, a deep, smooth instrument as comfortable with low-down blues as it is with sly, slinky R&B.
McDaniel, 53, grew up in Tampa, near Ybor City, leaving when he joined the Air Force at age 18. He later worked for the post office, pursuing music in his spare time.
He left the post office about 10 years ago to focus on music, originally seeking a career in contemporary gospel.
He released a pair of albums and “did OK, but not enough to pay the bills,” he says.
Blues and R&B have proved more lucrative, with “Blues in My Shoes” garnering popularity in the United States as well as Europe and Australia, McDaniel says.
McDaniel says his music operation is in-house, and he's not kidding. He owns his own recording studio, duplicates his own CDs and distributes them on his own CPA Records.
