About me:
The Albuquerque Sport Dog Clubs' mission is to help people become dog trainers while training their dogs, inducively and intelligently, toward earning Schutzhund titles. Typically the 3 phases of Schutzhund are atempted, my vision is to use the 6 phases of Schutzhund, 1. Drive Building, 2. Obedience, 3. Tracking, 4. Protection, 5. Helper Work and 6. Trial Preparation. I will also work toward a relationship to form a partnership between the mayors office, UNM Continuing Education, and The Albuquerque Isotopes to bring a National Schutzhund Event to Albuquerque. The plan is to develop interest and to apply for USA (United Schutzhund Clubs of America) membership once we have enough dogs and people(handlers) trained to host a trial. Exactly what I mean when I say enough dogs to host a trial is that the "club" would have handler and dog teams enough for entries of 2BH, 2ScHI, 2ScHII, and 2ScHIII. It is important to set goals and to be explicit about them with this type of club, because people place trust and devote time to this effort and I know they should get at least that in return. If you would like to come out and watch me train to decide whether or not I am capable of joining you in your Schutzhund goals, send a message to me. All are invited, but keep in mind that we are primarily a Schutzhund Club. I am sure that many of our future members will have much to contribute to our overall training program, because afterall, YOU will eventually train your dog. We know more about training than we think we do. Problems in training arise when we begin to doubt our abilities and misplace our training trust in the self-proclaimed "experts", don't do that, trust your judgement and instincts. To reiterate, one does not have to be interested in Schutzhund to come out, if you have some dog training questions feel free to send a message to me to see if I can help your dog training needs or come on out to our training sessions for I believe that many competent trainers will show up and be able to help you. My methods are a combination of styles, this is why I like to talk about dogs to many people, many great techniques can be learned from anyone, not just "trainers". Building repore, creating a good feeling between your dog and you, the bottom line is that dog and people training is not a recipe, each person dog combination is unique and different issues arise therein. there is so much to talk about...oh and I will also, and have already begun to involve area rescues to help increase their adoption rates, training, education and partnerships are important in this endeavor. This is another goal of Abq Sport Dog club, to increase the adoption rates of of local rescue organizations thru training education and training support.
Who I'd like to meet:
I would like to plan some seminars and two names immediately come to mind, Dave Kroyer and Bernhard Flinks, both are accomplished trainers and more importantly superior teachers.
