Alamo Basement and Insurgent Theatre Ambush present:
Play in a Day 3: The Musical May 10th, 8pm $10 The Tenth Street Theatre 628 N 10th St Milwaukee,WI
The only theatre people in the history of the world (as far as we can tell) ballsy enough to try and create a great big full length play from absolutely nothing in only 24 little hours are upping the ante this year. In addition to a handful of writers creating a completely original script relay-style, a dozen or so actors rehearsing parts as the script is being written, and a crew of tech people constructing a set with only the foggiest notion of what the writers will have the actors do with it, this year, they've assembled lyricists and musicians to create songs for the characters to burst into at the key moments of great dramatic intensity.
Everything comes completely from scratch, no stock characters, no preconceived melodies, no formulas, just pure unbridled creative energy.
Sounds like an utter disaster waiting to happen, right? Not so! The last two years this team of ruthless invincible theatre monsters pulled it all off sans music with amazing success and critical acclaim ("one of the most thoroughly enjoyable productions to hit the stage in greater Milwaukee this season" - Russ Bickerstaff, Vital Souce Online, June 2007).
Come and see if they can handle the new challenge of Play in a Day: The Musical!
Dear Alamo Basement, I really love your Seal. Also, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to attend your play in a day, which I am seriously devastated about. However, I do not want to be known as "who was that inconsiderate bitch in the audience with the most adorable, beautiful child I have ever seen that wouldn't shut the *#$^ up? Man, that was annoying!" And I am not ready to get a sitter for the babe yet so...tape it and let's have a popcorn night where it is okay if my babe cries and I can watch your production without fear. Also, nice article in the sheperd. I will miss ya'll on Saturday and the best of luck. I am sure it will be awesome just like last year.
Hey thanks for watching this morning! It was a strange lil' bit but Yeah, we're blue collar all the way since that interview. I guess that's where boogers and farts get ya.
Git-R-Done.
Wanted to let you know about a one man show we have at the Lakeshore Theater this weekend Man 1 Bank 0. A TRUE story. Patrick Combs deposited a junk-mail check for $95,000 as a joke...it cashed! The bank demanded the money back. The rest is history. Its a great story and an interesting and really funny show. Check out more at my profile or site at www.LakeshoreTheater.com. Hope to see you there.
Doug Benson from VH1's Best Week Ever, with Special Guests TJ Miller and Graham Elwood are at Lakeshore Theater this weekend April 6 &7. Join us for some knock-down-drag-out stand up hilarity.
The Slinger is a breakfast meal. It typically consists of two eggs, hash browns, and a hamburger patty all covered in chili. This is a St. Louis classic. Diner food as its finest. The eggs can be any style. There is a particular brand of chili in St. Louis called Edmunds Chili which is delivered with beans and without. A quality slinger will also be served with grated cheese and onions.
St. Louis diners currently serving the Slinger include the Courtesy Diner, the O.T. Hodge Chile Parlour, Tiffany's Diner, the Eat Rite Diner, and the Chili Mac Diner. There are numerous variations including the "Top One" which will have a tamale served on top of the Slinger.
To quote Road Food, "The ultimate kill-or-cure chile meal (which, in our opinion, only tastes right after midnight), is known as a slinger. That is two bunless cheeseburgers crowded onto a plate with fried potatoes, topped with a fried egg, then blanketed with chili. The chili is garnished with grated cheese and chopped raw onions."
The Slinger can also be found at the Diner Grill on Chicago's north side.
Please see my play “No Safety in Numbers,” featured in the Playwrights Studio Theater's Festival of Ten Minute Plays, at Walker's Point Center for the Arts, 911 W. National Ave. Info is at 414-672-2787.

You made me laugh. Laugh so hard that I was humbled by your genius. Laughter so deep and rich it restored my fractured faith in the universe. I can never forgive you for that. But I will always love you.
