Sounds Like
°A unique style that I find very personal and captivating. (Georges Cziffra)
°Alain Baraige "An extraordinary pianist !" (le progrès)
°Alain Baraige does not hit the keys but caresses them (l'est républicain)
°His music is all softness, emotion and pleasure! (lyon matin)
°A composer of the emotions ! For all sensibilities ! (le figaro)
° The audience was charmed by the extraordinary piano recital of the french composer and soloist Alain Baraige. His music is unusual and deeply marked by an original philosophy of life. ( telegraphul de pahova, roumania)
Born in Lyon (France) in 1953, Alain Baraige started studying the piano on his own at 16. His early interests led him to explore a wide range of musical genres including rock'n'roll, blues, jazz, and classical. He finally dedicated himself exclusively to his own personal style. His compositions are primarily organized around the theme
of personnal developpement.
Albums: Water, sky and light (1991), Childish games (1997), Per aspera ad astra (2005).
An original musical conception
I am a musician of emotion rather than theory, of movement rather than concept. I seek fluidity rather than structure. I seek light and eternity instead of power. I have chosen to compose music that creates harmony, that is pleasant and relaxing to listen to and yet that has depth in its conception. That is why working with sonorities and touch is very important. I have had to develop a piano technique quite different from the traditional ones in order to avoid too much percussion of the keyboard. The result is a full and round sound."
Thank you for introducing me to your music. I love the impressionist influence on your playing. It's evocative and wonderful. I look forward to hearing more.
Hi again, 'Pirouettes et Cloches' would make a marvelous subject for orchestration. Have you ever tried and if not, has anybody else? I'd like to give it a shot when I have time! My programme is rather full at the moment due to writing music for a new videogame! Cheers, Fergus
Hi Alain, Thanks for the lovely compliment. You can order my CD from the online mail order firm Studio 52, or you can ask your local record store to order the CD from Studio 52. Track7 are planning an international release some time soon. There is a planned performance of my Sinfonietta which is on the CD in Lavel near Le Mans in north-west France in the beginning of 2008. I have to say that I like very much your compositions. There is a distinct Frenchness about them leaning towards Debussy's more sublime piano works - maybe hints of the Second Book of Preludes. Well done! By the way, I have orchestrated the First Book of Preludes for string orchestra and the London Chamber Orchestra is going to programme them for Summer 2008 in their South Bank Series. If this goes well we may make a recording. Sorry I'm waffling on as usual. Cheers and keep in touch. Fergus
