Crafting! I love to sew, bead, knit, crochet, paint... I love working with my hands to create. I also love baking vegan goodies and desserts. I admit to being a bit of a "crazy cat lady" because my husband (I DO have one, despite the cats) and I have six lovely felines. But I believe in the rights of ALL living creatures and think that we, as humans with more complex thinking capabilities, owe it to other beings to show compassion and kindness.
Music
My tastes vary WIDELY. I love Alison Krauss, Bjork, Phil Collins, the Beatles, Aphex Twin, Radiohead, Bela Bartok, electronica, cheesy musical theatre, oh where do I stop?
Movies
Old musicals - Singin' in the Rain, White Christmas, An American in Paris... all the great Gene Kelly flicks! Recent likes: Magnolia, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge.
Television
I'm a reality TV addict. My guilty pleasures? America's Next Top Model, The Biggest Loser and then The Simpsons and Family Guy. I also love Globe Trekker on PBS.
Books
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry - amazing, poignant read.
Most of you know me as Elizabeth Frick (or Verdine). But my business is Ahimsa Creations. Check out my website, www.ahimsa-creations.net to see all of my products. You can also view my pics to see a few of my designs. Ahimsa Creations is the manifestation of my passions. I adore sewing and creating crafts as well as promoting the welfare and protection of ALL living creatures, particularly animals. So I've started my business, Ahimsa Creations, to combine my passions and share them with the world!
I believe in the rights of all living beings. Cruelty to animals in simply unreasonable, in my opinion. One of my other core beliefs is that people should follow their passions to lead a happy and fulfilled life. Doing anything less is shortchanging yourself. You only live once, right? And I'm lucky enough to be able to follow all my passions and make a little cash while doing so.
I lived in Chicago for 10 years and am now residing in St. Louis to be closer to my family. I went to undergraduate and graduate school in Chicago, taught in inner-city public schools for 3 years, worked at a cageless, no-kill cat shelter (Tree House Animal Foundation - awesome organization!) for two years and since July of 2006, I've been operating my business. I also work part-time for Gateway Pet Guardians, a stray rescue organization.
The most exciting thing in my life right now is that Adam (my hubby) and I are awaiting a referral for our pending adoption! We'll soon get the call to pick up our baby daughter in Viet Nam and then we'll be parents. VERY exciting!
Now I'm busting out of my norm and finally finding the courage to follow my passions: promoting animals' rights and crafting! My business, Ahimsa Creations, allows me to make all kinds of goodies from purses to sock monkeys to jewelry, using recycled materials when available and never using wool, fur, leather, or any other animal product.
I believe we all have the capability to change the world for the better, it's just that most of us are lazy or lack the gumption to speak our minds.
Check out my website, www.ahimsa-creations.net
and my blog, saintlouisfricks.blogspot.com for more about me and my family!

I am so excited for you! I can't imagine how excited YOU must be! When is your daughter's due date? I hope to see pictures of her plastered all over your myspace soon! Are you going to get to choose her name?
thanks for finding us! if you ever need a place to work, we have open studio times on tue/wed/sat from 11a-9p. use of the space is free and open to the public.
I do still talk to Jessica. She is on my top friends here on myspace...you should definitely look her up....she would like to hear from you I bet :) She and her husband Hector and Jahleel and their daughter Raquel are living in Kansas. Jahleel is so so big now....I hardly recognized them and it has been about six years since I saw them....sigh...arizona is too far away.
Give my best to Adam too. Blessings on your journey to adopt and in your work. I love all the vegan goodies.
We were vegan for almost a decade (before there were so many simpler inexpensive local, organic soy-free ways to eat vegan.... even in chicago that was a tough road). I think it is awesome that vegan friendly foods are more mainstream now. We consumed way too much soy in our many years as vegan that we can't even digest it anymore at all.
We still never eat meat and won't and our kids are totally meat free too. I can't imagine it any other way.
I am totally rambling now. But i wanted to answer your facebook message here where you could find Jess :)
Noo...but if I did, it would be a zinnia flower on my back. My gf has a big cat scene on her back that's a work in progress, and my guy is going to get a keyboard on his forearm so he can use it to teach with! :) Oh and I do have temporary librarian tattoos. :)
