In a town where the music scene is all but completely under the radar, only a few brave souls have stepped out of the trap that they call home. Rather than dreaming about the music world outside of their home town, A Heart Between have taken things into their own hands. With a work ethic rivaling Rocky Balboa’s, and a punch just as fierce, A Heart Between have grabbed the dream by the horns and wrestled it into the ground relentlessly. Comprised of hardened veterans of the local music scene, they are no stranger to the stage. Ex-members of just about every band in the local game, they’ve finally drawn a winning hand, and they’re all in.
Fronting the band is the double-edged sword of Erik Faulds’ earth-shaking roars, and Dre Phillips’ alleviating melodies. Backed up by a barrage of guitars that range from delay soaked beauty to pure rock devastation, Bryan Baker and also-vocalist Dre Phillips layer complex riffs over the sonic thunderstorm of Stephen Crim’s bass guitar. Josh Ayres’ devastating drum assault portrays the evident passion of their music and ties the broad spectrum of their live show into a tight package. Rather than follow a particular formula, A Heart Between have found their niche making their own brand of rock, ranging from scream-laden fury to heart-warming crooning, they have their bases covered.
With influences ranging from Beloved to Tears for Fears, it’s apparent this band has avoided the pitfalls of imitation, and let their passion lead them to the sound and explosive live show they’ve acquired.
With a white-knuckle grip and a message worth hearing, A Heart Between has a depth and feeling that seems almost forgotten these days, and enough muscle to obliterate whatever stands in their way.
