Hey my name's Abbie Huxley. How did we get started on this? Well... I ran into producer/drummer Donnie Boutwell at his studio thru a Myspace ad that said Open House Party-Free Beer. That night as the party was winding down, I dropped off my self-produced e.p. Pop[R.E.D.].
Out of over 18,000 songs, three of my tracks from Pop[R.E.D.] had broken the Top Ten on Garageband.com's All-Time Alternative chart with both Quicksilver and Humble Pie going to #1 and Luvsik going to #7. Also, both Quicksilver and Humble Pie were distinguished as Tracks of the Week and Tracks of the Day. This is all based on listener reviews. Garageband.com is an indie music site which boasts thirteen of its top ranking artists being signed to major labels and was named by Time Magazine as one of the 50 Best Websites.
Using the E.P. as a "blueprint" Donnie and I re-recorded 4 songs from Pop[R.E.D.], Quicksilver, For Me, Humble Pie, Luvsik and a new song; You Oughta Know.
I ran into bass player Jonathan Nesta when I needed somebody to fill in for an upcoming show. As soon as I heard Jonathan play I knew I'd never need to call my old bass player back. Not long after that Donnie started playing drums. Jonathan and Donnie are genius players with great ideas and most of the time I feel like Im the one trying to keep up.
My current material reflects my roots as far as Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith but not the guitar rock of artists like Van Halen and Def Leppard and AC/DC. These days I listen to everything from Bob Dylan to Rob Zombie and I havent felt like I've recorded a record that really reflects the full scope of what Im influenced by so Im really amped up about making a new kick-ass rock record. This is a departure from my previous alternative/folk/rock productions in that the majority of songs are up-tempo with big guitars and keyboards. Think NIN meets Scissor Sisters and you'll have an idea.
"We're REALLY picky about what goes on the front page... and Pop[R.E.D.] is one of the best cd's I've ever heard"---Derek Sivers, President/CEO of CD Baby
"It is a rare occurrence when an artist reaches out and takes the listener on a magnificent aural journey that completely satisfies the soul. Abbie Huxley is one of those rare individuals. Pop[R.E.D.] is nothing short of spectacular. It is almost impossible not to hit replay after each song."---Yer Mama's Guide to Internet Music
"Abbie Huxley's album, 'Pop[R.E.D.]', strikes a haunting and mournful chord...Huxley wails with about as much passion as one could possibly express...beautiful melodies with lyrics that will make you stop in your tracks..."---CD Baby.com review
"Effulgent, hypnotic, passionate! If you hear the CD then you have to see this guy live. He has a raw brooding power that pulls you in with "Lovesick" and "For Me". Then, you are sent to some place you had never examined within yourself. This is what art is about."- Elaina
"Pop[R.E.D.] seems to draw on a ton of different sounds. Imagine a blender if you will, throw in some Radiohead, maybe a pinch of lounge, handfuls of retro staples, and acoustic guitar trimmings similar to my beloved Elliott Smith. But don't be fooled, Abbie Huxley is a completely original sound"- Mat Wisner, The Daily Grind
Read steps one and two in the 12&12 last night. It always amazes me that as cunning as the disease is, that it's always the same old problems like fear and self reliance. Fortunately for us, the solution is always the same as well. Trust God, clean house, and help someone. Do I like not knowing? NO. Can I trust that I am ok today? YES. Above all I have to remember that the God I've found does not mock his children. That is truly a higher power I can believe in. Love you.
Ya busy next Friday? We're having a party and I'd love for you to come ... we need to grab lunch regardless. Hope you're having a good summer ... can't wait to hear the music ...
Well, good and bad news... it's just me and God out here. It's the best thing I could have (besides you), but there's a reason you never hear people say his name when asked what's the one thing they would want to have if they were ever stranded on a deserted island! He's too mysterious! Ha ha, Love you.
