Apology Gets Nominated For 2006 Truth Awards for Category of "Best Theater Production"!!!
Synopsis of Apology:
Apology From One Sista’ to Another is a drama-filled tale of two women who get more than they bargained for when they fall for the same man.
Brian, a secretly troubled young man with misguided ambition, uses his extremely good looks and charm to rip-off successful women, and he hits the jackpot when he meets Rita and Sophie.
Rita is a successful proprietor of a spoken word café who meets Brian through an online dating site.
She immediately loves his flawless “fineness”, but there are some things about him that she can hardly tolerate -- his tendency to lie, his joblessness, lack of money and eventually, his violent temper. Yet, she consciously tolerates it all. This story makes it clear that Brian’s actions are quite deliberate.
Rita has several moments of clarity where she ponders leaving Brian, but she can’t -- not even when she knows he is simultaneously dating Sophie.
Sophie, a bitter divorcee, believes she has every right to target someone else’s companion given that someone stole her husband, Ahmad. She believes that Brian is just what the doctor ordered to heal the hurt in her heart, that is, until he begins to hurt her in ways she could have never imagined.
Brian does not enjoy abusing women, but his internal battles manifest themselves into battles with his women. This destructive triangle comes to a pivotal climax when Rita, after her breakup with Brian, has to decide if helping the woman who stole her man is more important than getting even.
Apology From One Sista’ to Another will be sure to connect with the audience and spark dialogue about sisterhood, male/female relationships and of course, Intimate Partner Violence.

Shywanee Gives Thanks:
Through encouragement from family and friends and with the increasing knowledge that the topic of my book, Apology From One Sista' to Another, was one women across the country could relate to, it was suggested that I turn the book into a stage play. The stage play “Apology From One Sista' To Another” debuted at The Duncan Theatre in Chicago, IL. The stage play was designed also to further promote the book. I have also begun work on a Screenplay for my book. In March of 2006, I was a panelist of the How To Forgive and Let Go Seminar at the V103 Expo For Today's Black Woman. I was also a special guest on Zelda Robinson’s television show, Zelda Speaks, and a special guest on The Other Winfrey Show hosted by Earl Winfrey. I have also been chosen for Chicago’s 2007 Principal For A Day program arranged by Chicago’s Mayor Richard J. Daley and have been asked to bring Apology From One Sista’ To Another, the stage play, to the Chicago Public High Schools. The stage play has also been nominated for the 2006 Chicago Truth Awards “Best Stage Play” category. I continue to write and recite poetry, and am a noted spoken word artist who won a 106.3 (Call Letters) poetry contest and performed live on the station. I have also performed poetry at the UpNext! Show in Chicago, Prysmatic Dreams Poetry Show in North Carolina, the New Word Order Net Slams 2004, Spoken Word Café Poetry Live, Secrets and other locations throughout the Chicagoland area.
