Sounds Like
conjuring up a melancholy mood for openers and then proceeding to blow it away with invigorating la-la-la choruses, bursting through like sun after a thunderstorm. radiating sheer joy, from lyrically subversive humour to anarchic trumpet and grungy guitar spazzouts (soundsxp)
a haze of sleigh bells and ukulele into a slick, country tinged hoe down (rockfeeback)
as if Pavement were actually from Crouch End (drowned in sound)
• our second single is out now on white heat records. It is a double a-side - 'all hat and no plans'/'great expectations'. the songs were recorded by brian o'shaugnessy at bark studio. brian recently produced the broken family band and the clientele, and less recently he produced primal scream. it was steve lamacq's single of the week on his 6music show, and is available on digital download and 7" from rough trade.
• the videos for both songs can be seen here
• 2007 saw us release our debut 7" single 'bad decisions' in june on fortuna pop! records. we played the end of the road festival, rocked koko with the broken family band and recorded a song for a sparklehorse tribute album in the US. previously we've shared a stage with the likes of tilly and the wall, darren hayman, loney dear, get cape wear cape fly, mystery jets and rumblestrips.
• 'bad decisions' gained radio support from steve lamacq, huw stephens and gideon coe, and its lilo-tastic video featured on mtv2.
• my sad captains has been described as follows;
'bad decisions' showed off slacker indie pop sensibilities that herald an inevitable radio takeover in the next year' (uncut)
'sparkling indie pop in the vein of pavement, the lemonheads or broken social scene, and the kind of music it’s possible to fall deeply in love to with people across the room whose gaze you momentarily caught but will never meet' (rockfeedback)
'like calexico's poppier cousins...genuinely tuneful country tinged songs...one of the capital's best kept secrets' (the fly)
'their ultra-melodic debut single is the sound of a perfect summer, all hooks, harmonies and handclaps…a pop confection that combines the bright jangle of the go-betweens and the dark majesty of the silver jews” (soundsXP)
I'm so looking forward to a long player from you guys. I thought Bad decisions was ace last year, and All Hat And No Plans was even better. You guys rock... In a kinda quiet way.
