WHO IS JERICKO ROSE
SHAMELESS PROMOTIONS NOVEMBER 2007 INTERVIEW WITH ME...NOW HEMLOCK PROMOTIONS!!
SP: Hi JR! First, let's get to know you! Tell us a little about Jericko Rose.
JR: - well..i'm a one man show...at least on record...lol..i play all the instruments as well as vocals and also produced and engineered my whole record in my recording studio. i'm trying to put the "fun" back into rock..you know..more positive vibes..that sort of thing..very light hearted type..the kind of music you can let your hair down and just forget about life for awhile!! we all have problems..so my message is pretty clear..let's have fun!!
SP : Let us in on some general info about what you're up to musically at the moment.
JR : - i have enough material to do 2 more records at the moment..but since the release of "RAW" it pretty much takes up all my free time..which isn't that much to begin with. i do all my public relations work myself also...who's gonna know me better than me???...lol...
SP: Because we love what we're hearing from you, we have to ask, what influenced your decisions to become a musician?
JR: - that's an easy one..THE BEATLES...i was 4 years old when i saw them on THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW...i remember it vividly and by that answer..you can probably guess that i'm older than most musicians..but rock 'n roll keeps you young at heart and i have been fortunate enough to hang on to my youthful appearance as well!! my mother was also a music teacher..so learning to play everything just kind of fell into place. if i wasn't playing an instrument..i was playing sports!!
SP: You're music definitely is reminiscent of the greatest 80's rock bands describe what the music you play means to you.
JR: - pure unadulterated fun...the 80's hair band era..arena rock era..was the time of my life!! i played in so many cover bands and toured canada and the eastern united states during that time and it was just so much fun..alot different than the bars of today. people were more light hearted back then it seemed. the folks that grew up in that era certainly can relate to that and for those of you that didn't...it's really sad that you couldn't experience the fashion..the thrill..the lights...and the just have fun spirit!!
SP: How did you start out in music?
JR : - oh god..young..my mother being a music teacher... started all us kids out on the piano...my least favorite instrument by the way..and from there...we just got interested in other instruments growing up..but at least...she laid down the foundation for us!!
SP: What instruments do you play? Are you loyal to a certain guitar?
JR: - i play drums, guitars...both rythmn and lead...bass, keyboards assorted percussion instruments and the trumpet..which i played in high school band..when i wasn't playing football and basketball!! i am not loyal to any of my instruments except the one i made which is on my front cover of my record. it still doesn't quite have the sound i want..but i'm working on it..wiring..electrronics and so forth..other than that..instruments and recording gear come and go!!
SP: Where do you see yourself and your music career in 5 years?
JR: realistically..i hope to land a song in a major motion picture...i've already achieved my biggest goal and that was to put out my own cd the way i wanted it. i'd also like to do more radio spots, sport highlight spots..anything like that and obviously i like to write songs...kind of my own personal journal if you will!!
SP: What do you think is the one thing that needs to happen to get you to that point?
JR: - exposure..the right person in the business who truly gets it and believes in what i'm doing..and can put 100% of it into me. a little at a time works for me right now...it's all i can handle!!...lol..
SP: What are a few of the best highlights of your experience so far?
JR: - that there are people out there still..who crave the kind of music i write that simply can't find it on todays market anymore..it freaks me out everytime someone takes notice of it..very flattering!! i think..we as musicaian's..have a hard time being on top one day and being forgotten the next...that's hard!! but i'm well aware of that formula and it really doesn't bother me..it's just the way it is!!
SP: What are you listening to right now....what cd's are in your player, or what songs are you downloading to your iPod?
JR: - i've been listening to WINGER - "PULL" it's been in my car for the last month..prior to that..it was the BULLETBOYS - "FREAKSHOW"...their remake of "HANG ON ST. CHRISTOPHER" by Tom Waits is so killer... what a groove!! yep..stuck in the 80's...lol..
SP: What music were you raised with, and how did those artists influence the music you play now?
JR: - everything i've ever heard..but definately effected by the hair band sound with the beatlesque type of melodies...it is so important as a writer to write something whereas if you only heard the song once..the melody still sticks in your head or a catch phrase..you know..like "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT" we all kind of remember that!! with "COWGIRL NATION" i tried to write a catch phrase like "KYE YIE YIPPIE YIE YAY" so people would kind a remember it..not sure if it is working and it is such a backwards way of saying the traditional cowboy yelp!!
SP: Why do you think it's so hard for bands to "make it" in the industry right now?
JR: there are so many bands and so much talent..but i think the writing has alot to do with it...you have to have a hook.. a good melodic line...a lyrically clever song..country comes to mind on this...they have so many cleveerly put together songs..sometimes in a cinematic way..which is hard to do when you're trying to tell a complete story in a 3 and a half minute time frame...definately a challenge!!
SP: We know that your cd just debuted Congratulations, for that! where is it available for fans to purchase?
JR: - right here..right on this page!! buy it now!! what are you waiting for??!!...lol...do you want a great cruisin' down the road with the music crankin up to eleven cd??!!...then buy my cd!!...lol..
SP: Where can your fans go to see you perform?
JR: - well another most frquently asked qustion...depending on what the cd does and if there is a strong need to promote the album...i will have to hire a whole band...2 guitarists, bassist and a drummer and they all must be able to sing well...big vocal choruses in my music ya know...has to resemble exactly how the record sounds!!
SP: Speaking of performing, tell everyone, if you could headline anywhere in the world, where would that be?
JR: - doesn't matter to me...i'm not taken by places at all or star struck by anything or anyone..it's all just people and places...i just love to meet great people and by that i mean...kind...caring people!! doesn't matter what size, shape, or form that you are...it's inside where it matters most!!
SP: Because everyone could use a "shameless" plug every now and then....What are your thoughts about the Shameless Profile?
JR: - i think it's a great way to meet the new bands of tomorrow...to find out what makes them tick..what inspires them..all that...let's face it...the internet has become an unbelievable tool for bands or artists like me to get heard..otherwise alot of us still would be silent...kudos to you and your staff!!!
SP: Has being seen on the profile been helpful in connecting with others in the industry?
JR: - definately yes!! alot of the internet radio stations are finding me now and i hope that that means they're digging what i'm doing. i think internet radio is absolutley wonderful...we're not programmed to hear what they want us to hear and there are so many great independent artists and bands out there...it totally flips me out!!
SP: And finally, THANK YOU, for your time and for answering our questions. Let us in on where can we find more of Jericko Rose. Guide us to all the Jericko Rose weblinks.
