Hozey-T is one of the rare emcees respected by hip-hop heads and rap fans alike. Lyrically skilled, he brings a new dynamic to the industry with his musical foundation, mainstream appeal, and ability to address a variety of concepts. Growing up in Kansas City, MO, a place known for its historic music culture, there is no question as to why Hozey-T has a love of music. His passion for music began as a child singing and playing instruments in church. As he aged, his creative drive grew. By the age of 15, he was accepted into Paseo Academy of the Fine and Performing Arts, where he took pride in his acceptance due to the fact that one of his idols, the late Tupac Shakur, also attended a performing arts academy. At Paseo, his focus shifted to creative writing. He was later deemed best male creative writer of his class, which was one of the many ways he was recognized as creatively superior. As a senior, he and a group of talented friends wrote and produced a school song that turned into a summer anthem by receiving local radio play and selling thousands of copies. After graduation, Hozey-T enlisted in the army but was forced to leave due to his lung collapsing. From that point on, he refocused on his music by moving to Houston, TX with some friends and forming a rap group, FBI (formed by inspiration), which concentrated on Christian concepts and principles. The group achieved minor success as they were signed to New Soul Music Group, and worked with artists such as CY, Tre-9, and gospel sensation MaryMary. Eventually the group left the label and later spilt because of irreconcilable differences. This lead Hozey-T back home to Kansas City and eventually to Missouri State University. At that point, Hozey-T had been rhyming for a few years and was experimenting with the idea of producing. He purchased a Triton keyboard at 19, and spent every free minute learning to build beats while writing lyrics. As he pursued his degree, he completed his first self produced, recorded, and distributed album entitled, Summer Vacation. This project revealed how his unique rhyme patterns, extensive vocabulary, socially conscience and brilliantly constructed lyrics could walk that fine line between commercial and historical. Hozey-T is a writing prodigy who wants to use social consciousness to bring responsibility back to the hip-hop culture, promising his listeners something more than the same ghetto story given by most rappers.
