The West Memphis Blues & Rhythm Society Proudly Presents a Tribute to a West Memphis icon, the Plantation Inn.
October 19-20, 2007 in West Memphis, Arkansas
Explore and celebrate the nightclub that shaped “the Memphis Sound.”
Friday, October 19th
“Ben Branch, Bowlegs, and the Birth of the Memphis Sound”
A symposium featuring the insights and memories of scholars and musicians, including legendary musician and producer Jim Dickinson.
9:30am to 3:30pm
The Plantation Inn Tribute Gala
Starring Wayne Jackson and the PI Blues Band
From the high-flying sounds of Calvin Newborn to the horn-punctuated rhythms of Bowlegs Miller’s big band, the musical tradition of the Plantation Inn will be celebrated by this band fronted by Memphis Horn and Stax legend Wayne Jackson.
8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis (Exit I-40 at 279A/Ingram Blvd)
ADMISSION: $50 for each event or $100 for both.

The Plantation Inn MainStage Amateur R&B Contest
The spirit of the Plantation Inn comes back to life with a rollicking contest for amateur blues and rhythm bands. Who will carry on the tradition first begun by Phineas Newborn on the PI’s Main Stage? Come see the show to find out.
5:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Worthington Park in West Memphis (Exit I-40 at 278/Missouri Street, South to Worthington Drive)
ADMISSION: The concert is free.

FIRST PRIZE IS A SESSION AT WILLIE MITCHELL'S ROYAL RECORDING STUDIO!
RUNNER-UP GETS A ST. BLUES GUITAR DONATED BY WDIA
Compete against other up-and-coming bands for great prizes. The show will be judged by an esteemed panel of musicians including Calvin Newborn, Wayne Jackson, Boo Mitchell, and Brenda Berger O’Brien, daughter of Plantation Inn founder Morris Berger.
The Memphis Snake Doctors will be available to back singers without bands.
Registration is free through October 19. On October 20, registration is $25.
