    21st Century Democrats's Interests
General

OUR VISION: Twenty-First Century Democrats believes that the core problem leading to our electoral failures is the lack of bold visionary leadership. We need leaders who are willing to risk everything to stand up for what they know is right. Twenty-First Century Democrats wants to make sure that the next generation of our party’s leadership is as bold as our current leaders are timid.

The best way to achieve sustainable majorities – and to enact substantive changes in public policy – is to invest in the kind of leaders who will inspire their community, give voters a compelling reason to elect them, and will not cower in fear at the first sign of difficulty.

While we support the efforts of progressive organizations to take back majorities at both the state and federal levels in 2006, we recognize that the Democratic Party suffers from a lack of leadership and the lack of a farm team of proven leaders unafraid to stand up for progressive values. Leadership is the key not only to winning elections, but also to taking actions after Election Day that define our party, inspire communities, allow us to govern effectively, and sustain our success.

Twenty-First Century Democrats understands that this is a significant shift in the progressive paradigm. Fundraising prowess is more important than leadership ability for most Democratic consultants, strategists, and party leaders. For them, short-term electoral success is more important than electing candidates who can effectively lead the majorities we hope to elect. We have tried this failed strategy for more than a decade, and it has failed. The tactical approach to elections is bankrupt.

It is time for something for something different.
HeroesExtraordinary, visionary leaders

OUR MISSION: Twenty-First Century Democrats’ mission is to be the catalyst for a new progressive movement in the United States through which we ensure the next generation of elected officials are bold, forward-thinking leaders. We seek out, train, and support extraordinary leaders who are courageous risk-takers and who inspire Americans to take action.

We believe it is vital to make certain that the individuals being elected to lead our country are authentic, innovative thinkers who have the ability to lead America in a new direction.

Twenty-First Century Democrats supports extraordinary candidates who lead by example, who unwaveringly stand for their values, and who reach out to all Americans. Our candidates are not poll-dependent, selfish, or power-hungry. A Twenty-First Century Democrat isn’t afraid of fighting tough battles or standing alone when it’s the right thing to do. Our candidates don’t play politics-as-usual; they lead. They are committed to moving the hearts and minds of Americans by inspiring all with a bold vision of what’s possible for our country and for the world. A Twenty-First Century Democrat is the kind of leader who gets things done.

Republicans can't win elections based on their failed philosophies, so, they've latched onto a new plan: make it as hard and expensive as possible for people to exercise their constitutionally protected right to vote.

Since the Supreme Court decided two weeks ago to uphold a draconian law in Indiana that requires citizens show a government issued photo ID to vote, Republican legislatures across the country have started moving fast to pass their own version of this horrible law.

And just like the poll taxes and literacy tests of the past, Republicans hide their real purpose under the banner of preventing possible voter fraud. But these laws are really about stopping senior citizen, low income, and newly registered Americans from voting. Why? Because they typically vote for Democrats.

We must stand together and protect every American's right to vote.

SIGN THE PETITION NOW:

Already 19 states are rushing to pass anti-voting laws. And just this week, Missouri Republicans started taking it a step further. A photo ID isn't good enough; they want you to show your birth certificate or passport in the polling booth too.

What's next? Require a blood sample? Maybe a lock of hair? Or some of your DNA?

Republicans claim this is about national security. They have no proof, but illegal immigrants might be trying to vote. On the other hand, just last week in Indiana's primary, as many as 12 nuns were denied their right to vote because they didn't have government issued photo-ids. That’s right; evidently Republican's are protecting our democracy from our biggest threat: nuns without ids.

Together, we have the power to stop this assault on our right to vote.

TAKE ACTION AND SIGN THE PETITION NOW:

We've now had 5 years of lies about 9/11, WMD's, and freedom. The real reasons were oil, profiteering, and fascism. Not just Bush, but the news media, most of congress, and all who remain silent. And now they'll use fear to quash dissent. It's nothing new -- it's been going on for ages. War, poverty, ecocide, arrogant bullying --they're all from greed and fear, which come from ignorance. ♥ But it's not too late -- we can still learn to make peace. Talk with people. Love, Eric
