| About The 108 Tongues |
Hip-hop's Varsity Team
108 Tongues is an up-and-coming rap crew from all over the US - Wisconsin, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York - who met at college in the fall of 2004. In the fall of 2005, we released our first mixtape - The First Year - collecting 7 Tongues tracks from our first year as a group, plus 5 never-before-released bangers. Our stage show has been seen by thousands of people; we've been performing at shows, conferences, and open houses for over a year, having performed at public middle school Amistad Academy in New Haven, Quaker high school Friends Seminary in the Lower East Side of NYC, bougie ass restaurant the Union League Cafe in New Haven, Culture Shock at CBG Red Bar in midtown Manhattan, and dozens of open mics, talent shows, benefits, breakdance shows, and paid concerts right here on Yale University campus. We are currently shopping around for a group label deal, and working on another EP release, with documentary footage on DVD and some solo LP's.
The crew is primarily composed of emcees, though there are also Tongues graffiti artists, beatboxers, live instrumentalists, producers, and breakers. We're currently on the lookout for dope emcees to spit and record with us.
If you hate that wackass mass-produced fake-thuggin' gangsta garbage that those other bullshit rappers make... that you hear on the radio, MTV, and BET... get down with the Tongues movement today

About 108 Tongues
What does "108 Tongues" mean?
- In Shaolin kung fu, as well as many eastern religions, 108 is a very important and spiritual number. The lyrics of the 108 Tongues are a kind of martial art, using our lyrics as our weapons.
- Each emcee in our crew has a very distinct lyrical style and a very different delivery. We combine these individual abilities into one invincible whole every time we get in the booth.
Why does the game need your crew?
- Right now, rap's full of bullshit... too many wack emcees talking about the same old topics - clothing, jewelry, women, that sort of poppy shit. 108 is taking it back to the old-school and mid-90s of hip-hop, back when emcees weren't dope unless they had lyrical skill. If you hear it on a 108 track, it's real. We aren't interested in pretending we're strapped with nines or we pump the block... we're just here to make tracks like a heroin addict.
- It's essential that those kids who have never been exposed to the real hip-hop understand that it goes further than those videos on MTV and BET.
Who are you?
- Formed in September 2004, the original core of the group was three emcees - all of whom had prior experience in writing and performing rap music - Enigmatic, MC Pltano, and The Grand Master.
- 108 Tongues now has a varied roster of rappers, beatboxers, and producers.
- Our music has been featured on various college radio stations (including NYU, UD, and Harvard), is available online (at our website), and on our first full studio-mastered debut. We have also been featured in various publications, including The Yale Herald, The Yale Daily News, The Harvard Crimson, and the Daily Princetonian
