Le*Pop are an electro-pop band from Costa Rica that came to light on the MTV Latin America television program Zona de Combate in 2008.
Comprised of Stella Peralta (vocals), Popeye Noguera (guitar), Luis Montalbert (keyboards), Andre Kelso (bass), and Mario Miranda (drums), the band cites influences ranging from iconic new wave bands such as Blondie and Talking Heads to contemporary electro-pop acts such as LCD Soundsystem and CSS. Comparisons have been drawn to Belanova, a similarly styled female-fronted electro-pop band from Mexico. Le*Pop made their commercial recording debut in 2007 with the full-length album Bendita Televisor on the independent label Arimaka. The band's big break came the following year when it was chosen to compete on Zona de Combate, a spinoff of the MTV-hosted social networking website LaZona.com. The televised publicity helped get the promotional video for the band's "No Tengo Calma" single in steady rotation on MTV Latin America, a rarity among indie music acts to date. ~ Jason Birchmeier
